Dear Members, The government's tight media control is increasingly being challenged by the rise of alternative media especially on the Internet. From independent blogs to large-media websites, how can the government navigate the age of the Internet, balancing media controls with the desires of an increasingly sophisticated and cynical population? The government says it wants to encourage more debate; is this just lip service to the younger generations or is there a genuine attempt to engage the post-65 electorate? How far can bloggers go? Are bloggers re-defining OB markers? Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports and Second Minister for MICA, has agreed to address the FCA on Thurs, Mar 22 on the topic of 'Navigating the Age of the Internet, Singapore and the New Media." There will be a Q&A session on the record. The former ophthalmologist and medical director of the Singapore National Eye Centre entered politics in 2001 and is the MP for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC. Dr Balakrishman is also the Chairman of Young PAP. I hope many of you can join us for this session with the Minister. Regards Sonia Kolesnikov-Jessop FCA President
